About This Blog
I am a PhD candidate conducting a study of the X-ray spectral variability of AGN. This blog is a collection of brief tutorials on AGN, burblings on journal articles, and descriptions of underlying physics. I may also post on the general goings-on in science and astronomy; though, it is not the main thrust of this blog.

Please feel free to leave comments to challenge me, to clarify your own understanding or to suggest other resources.

I also keep up a personal blog:
My Silly Life.

Not above bribery

Anyone who has read more than a couple entries here knows that I'm struggling with writing my thesis. And by "struggling", I mean I think about writing it, get mad at myself for not writing it, and then still don't write.

I need to change that.

I've decided that bribery might be the right way to go. I've been eyeing a Hello Kitty iPod dock with speakers. I realize that it might not be the best quality speakers, but it's cute. And I want it.

The bribe? Write 50 new pages of my thesis, and I can get that dock. I'm currently at 22 pages. Brainless, script-written tables or plots don't count, but tables and plots that I actually have to work at do count toward the page count. Let's see how long this takes, shall we?
