About This Blog
I am a PhD candidate conducting a study of the X-ray spectral variability of AGN. This blog is a collection of brief tutorials on AGN, burblings on journal articles, and descriptions of underlying physics. I may also post on the general goings-on in science and astronomy; though, it is not the main thrust of this blog.

Please feel free to leave comments to challenge me, to clarify your own understanding or to suggest other resources.

I also keep up a personal blog:
My Silly Life.

I shouldn't be surprised anymore...

I should just expect that if there is something boneheaded or inconsiderate that my thesis advisors *could* do, then they *will* do it.

The latest?

Friday I was at a mini-conference to highlight the extragalactic research going on in our division. The last thing of the day was a "jamboree" of one-minute talks by grad students and postdocs, with the main purpose of just introducing ourselves to the division. All of the one-minute presenters lined up, making it very clear who was next.

When my turn came, I started walking up to the overhead projector with my slide, and I looked to the back of the room to see my advisor leaving, heading into the conference room vestibule to chat with someone. Really? Right when his grad student is coming up? This little chat couldn't wait one minute?

I have got to get out. This PhD is going to be the end of my sanity.
